Rules (Use Common Sense)

  1. All of our Discord #rules apply.

  2. Theft is not welcome, but borrowing can be. Err on the side of caution. Take the value of items and whom you are borrowing from into consideration. Unless it is an emergency, you should always ask first, and always return items or pay back in full.

  3. Griefing is a bannable offense, be it players' builds or wanton destruction of terrain. This is a shared space, treat it as such. Removing chunks for mob farms (aka perimeters) is OK since that serves a function. We know accidents can happen, so don't worry!

  4. The spawn chunks (-192 to 208 on the X and Z axis) of the overworld are off limits for bases, farms, or automation. However, you are allowed to tunnel underground and mine resources. To learn why, read about Spawn Island further down this page.

  5. Leave other players’ builds as you found them. Clean up after your stay and return things back to their original state where possible. Should damage occur, offer aid in repair. (This includes Spawn Island.)

Etiquette (Respect One Another)

  1. Don’t destroy unrecoverable resources (such as mob spawners) without careful consideration. If it's in your build, it's your call to make...just don’t make these calls for the server as a whole! Always err on the side of caution. Ask Gunny if you are uncertain.

  2. Be considerate of those around you. The world may be infinite, but that doesn’t mean you can encroach upon others. Always look for signs of player activity before building/mining and if found, ask for permission. Yes, even if they are a few hundred blocks away.

  3. Don’t mark off large swaths of land as your own without absolute intent of building there. Keep in mind that others may want to build there too. First come first serve is the natural order here, but so is collaboration. Doesn’t hurt to ask!

  4. Pranks are welcome. Just take your target into careful consideration, and don’t break the rules. Offer to help them clean it up and be open to reciprocation. We’re here to have fun, not destroy or burden. Be kind and make them laugh.

  5. As with any public game space, let folks know that you are recording or streaming. Conversely, expect to be on camera when you play in a public server. Content creation is unavoidable, so do your part in making people comfortable.

When in doubt, ask a mod. We’re more than happy to help!

These rules are blanket statements. There will always be edge cases, so use your best judgement.
We moderate on a case by case basis with thorough investigation and consideration. So don't fear being a gremlin! We think that sounds rad. :)

How to Join

Our Minecraft server is exclusive to members of our Discord. To join, use the /minecraft join command in #minecraft.
By joining, you accept and acknowledge the rules and etiquette listed above.

 Welcome to Spawn Island!

A large island decorated with a wide spectrum of humble builds upon custom terrain, built in creative mode prior to the launch of this server with the help of our wonderful community affiliates.

Spawn Island encompasses the entirety of the spawn chunks, a permanently loaded region of the world centered at the origin (0,0). The spawn chunks are off-limits to keep the server performant and encourage players to spread out. To achieve this, Spawn Island puts you in adventure mode. You can tunnel beneath Spawn Island and mine resources, but you can't break or place blocks within it, except in the few places where we provide starter farms.

Come visit Spawn Island and explore its beauty firsthand! We hope to provide inspiration with our showcase of collaboration.

Technical notes

  • The adventure mode region spans the XZ plane from -192 to 208, starting at Y level 32. Anywhere outside this region is survival.

  • Entities arriving from the End are teleported to (216,-216) after arriving at (0,0) for 1 tick. Velocity is preserved.

  • Mob spawns are limited by the two biomes present: Mushroom Fields (Y level 32 to build limit) and Deep Dark below that.

Enhancements

We've modified the game in a way that complements vanilla Minecraft without drastically affecting its gameplay mechanics or aesthetics. Our goal is to enhance your experience while maintaining expectations and without providing any advantages. Consider it vanilla with sprinkles!

Altered Gameplay

We’ve chosen to alter some gameplay mechanics to prevent accidental griefing and make multiplayer simpler.

  • Fire spread has been disabled, allowing you to build without the fear of losing your work to a fire.

  • Endermen do not pick up blocks, meaning they won't dissolve the landscape over time.

  • Night will pass with only one player sleeping. It’s easier to ask folks to not sleep than to coordinate everyone to sleep!

  • Zombies do not break wooden doors. Your builds (and villagers) are safe from their casual griefing.

Additional Content

With these expansions you can breathe more life into your builds or whatever you may fancy.

  • Nametags - You can “mute”, “unmute”, and “unname” mobs using these names. Muting and unmuting won't change their name!

  • Statues - Sign a book titled “Statues” to obtain the statues book, allowing you to pose and customize armor stands.

  • Head Drops - All mobs drop their heads when killed to varying degrees of rarity. Players will always drop their head!

  • Micro-blocks - The wandering trader additionally offers a random assortment of micro-blocks. Wonderful for decoration!

Chat Commands

There are a variety of commands available to all players. They provides utilities and minor extensions to gameplay.

  • /afk - Mark yourself as AFK. This happens automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. This is AFK farm friendly!

  • /mail - Check your mailbox on Spawn Island. Don’t have one? Pay the post office a visit to register your own!

  • /trigger ch_toggle - Toggle a simple coordinates HUD that appears above your hotbar. A nice alternative to F3.

  • /trigger duraPing - Configure your durability ping settings. This alerts you when your items are about to break. Off by default.

  • /trigger if_invisible - Use while looking at a nearby item frame to make it invisible. Does not work on empty frames.

 Customization

We encourage you to customize your game to improve your experience. The Minecraft community is vast and provides tons of amazing resources! Here are some of our favorites for you to consider. We don’t tolerate cheating and will moderate such. That said, there is a large gray area so it never hurts to ask (e.g. mini-maps and schematics are fine, but bot automation is not).

Client-Side Mods

There are many modding APIs out there, all of which work just fine when playing on our server. Personally, we prefer to use Fabric for its lightweight approach and available mods. Of all the mods out there, we suggest the following for everyday use:

  • Mod Menu - An in-game manager and configuration utility for your installed mods.

  • Simple Voice Chat - We encourage you to use proximity voice in our server. It improves communication and immersion immensely!

  • Status - Let others know your status in-game, as well as request that they do not sleep through the night should you need it.

  • Lithium - Significantly improve the performance of your game with this collection of optimizations. (up to 40% faster)

  • Sodium - Significantly improve your FPS with this replacement of the rendering engine. (up to 5x the FPS)

  • Iris - Extend Sodium with further optimizations and shader pack support for the best graphics possible.

  • Entity Culling - Significantly improve your FPS by not rendering entities you can’t see. (observed up to 3x the FPS with sodium)

  • ImmediatelyFast - Significantly improve your FPS with this improvement to immediate mode rendering. (up to 4x the FPS)

  • Starlight - Significantly improve the performance of lighting updates with this rewrite of the lighting engine. (roughly 2x faster)

  • Ferrite Core - Reduce RAM usage with this collection of optimizations. (up to 50% lower)

  • Carpet - An extensive mod that provides a vast array of technical player utilities and scripting support. Not for the casual player!

  • MiniHUD - A highly configurable alternative to the F3 screen, with many new informational overlays such as light levels.

  • BetterF3 - A highly configurable replacement of the F3 screen, adding colors and human-readability improvements.

  • Better Statistics Screen - A highly configurable alternative to the statistics screen, adding filters, a customizable HUD, and more.

  • Litematica - An advanced schematics mod, allowing you to design in single-player creative then build with a hologram guide on our server.

  • Axiom - An absurdly powerful and feature rich in-game all-in-one editor with the quality and familiarity of modern 3D modeling software.

Further Resources

Here are a few external resources that we use. They range from simple to advanced and none of them require mods!

  • Vanilla Tweaks - Resource packs can significantly improve your game and this website is plentiful.

  • Foxglove Trader - A resource pack that reskins the wandering trader as Foxglove, our mascot! Thank you Jackal!

  • Minecraft Tools - A wide range of tools to help you with the more technical or convoluted aspects of Minecraft.

  • PMCSkin3D - The best skin editor you’ll find online with a myriad of tools and settings. It helps a lot!

  • AutoHotkey - This powerful software is fantastic for automating actions, such as those you perform in some AFK farms.

 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difficulty set to?

After putting it to community vote, the difficulty has been set to Hard. If you're having trouble, reach out! There are many experienced players wanting to help. Not sure what difficulty does? Check out this page of the wiki where it is detailed exhaustively.

There is a problem, who should I contact?

Gunny, Yota, and Apple are the ops of the server. Contact them for general issues such as lag, theft, griefing, or other in-game concerns. Otherwise contact a Discord Moderator or Peace Keeper to report a user for breaking the rules. If you're not sure who to contact, Gunny can always help.

Can I have the world seed please?

Despite how much we want to, we shouldn't make the seed public. There are far too many downsides to justify the few benefits it brings. Since this is something we can never undo, we have to take our time and consider this carefully. Our stance may change in the future, but for now, you'll just have to explore the world or do your own tests for slime chunks.

Can you add this mod or datapack?

Most mods or datapacks alter the game too much to consider adding them to the server. As stated above, we want to keep the game as vanilla as possible. That said, it never hurts to ask Gunny what he thinks or feels about any given mod or datapack. Feel free to approach him! Just don't get your hopes up.

Why can't I build my base in the spawn chunks?

Since the spawn chunks are permanently loaded, anything built there can contribute to server lag. We also wish to encourage player distribution, so as to avoid a cramped spawn filled with abandoned bases and builds. We do allow tunneling beneath Spawn Island and the mining of resources, but to mitigate the above issues, we do not allow bases or automation. Not sure if you can do something in the spawn chunks? Never hurts to ask.

I want to know more about what went into the making of this server.

A news post was written back when this server was revealed to the public. It covers most everything. Hopefully it has the answers you seek. If not, feel free to ask Gunny.

I am having connection problems, what can I do? (timeouts or hostname not found)

Check to make sure that you didn't accidentally add a space to the Server Address. If that is not the case, use of a VPN has helped many. Also worth reducing your chunk render distance in case you are having bandwidth problems.
