About the Collective

How did Foxglove Comics come to be?

Foxglove Comics is a re-branding, restructuring, and reorganization of Dreamy Star Comics, where Dreamy Star is a label name owned by Ashley Nichols. This came about due to the members of Dreamy Star Comics forging their own paths and careers that did not lend well to a collective anymore. With most of the members having left, NeonNoble and Caytlin Vilbrandt brought in IzzySqueakzy, Metajoker, and Gunny Waffle. Together they rebuilt the collective into Foxglove Comics as the founding team.

Who owns Foxglove Comics?

Technically speaking the founding team members do, but no one person in particular owns the collective as we collectively belong to it and share ownership of it. If you want to get literal, then Caytlin and Gunny own Foxglove Comics as the technical admins. Together they own and manage all of the accounts, services, and registrations. As for each individual webcomic, they are wholly owned by their respective creators and by no means co-owned by other members of the collective.

What are the goals of the collective?

You know how there are small circles of friends that help each other out to the best of their abilities? That's us, with a fancy code name. We want to see each other succeed in our creative goals with sustained life stability. By operating in a collective we can dial our efforts to 11, exposing each other to a shared audience. This further enables us to foster a larger community that does the same for others.

Can I join Foxglove Comics?

While it is a technical yes, members join by invite only so the answer is no until you are invited. It would be irresponsible to invite every webcomic creator we love. We have to consider a lot of factors such as our time availability, community stability, audience merging, capability to collaborate, and many more. Consider it no different than the decision making process for becoming business partners.

About the Comics

Why does each individual webcomic have its own unique website?

Each webcomic operates independently, often bringing a pre-existing website to the collective. We actively collaborate and help each other in regards to web development, but we do not render any services as a business would. That said, there is an internally developed technology used by several of our websites called comic_git, which is also widely available for others to use as well! Each webcomic may also have multiple hosting solutions, such as Tapas or Webtoon.

Does everyone on the team have a say or is this run by one person?

It may look like Gunny runs the show at times, but as a collective everyone has a say. We have a private Discord server where we discuss everything as a team. Few topics require everyone to participate: the topic may not apply to everyone, it might require a timely decision, or folks may otherwise be unable to contribute. We act as faithfully as possible knowing our peers. Too many cooks spoil the broth, so we maintain a healthy balance of discussion.

Do you help each other or is it every creator for themselves?

A healthy mix of both! It is well-stated that we help each other out, seeing as that's a primary goal of the collective. This does not mean that we work on each other's webcomics though. For the most part, we work together on the collective, personal growth, and support where needed. There is a fine line between help and servitude, though, so we put education first. For example, the first draft of this website was developed by Gunny despite Caytlin being the resident website guru. This taught him how to update the website without her aid. However, if the task at hand is of equal footing, work is doled out to whoever wants it. In the end there are no rules here, and we work organically with each other or alone. Point is, we are always working together to an extent.

Does being in the collective restrict or otherwise alter your work?

Not at all! This is made possible by carefully considering a webcomic and its creator before inviting them to the collective. We would never want to impose our community's standards and culture upon someone that would feel stifled by it. Rather, we make sure it would resonate with them and motivate them further before even inviting them.

About the Community

What's with the bat jokes and themes? Isn't your mascot a fox?

During the early development of Foxglove Comics, Gunny came to realize that all the present comics had bats. Tamberlane has Belfry, Mothorial has Ava, and Kalzeria has background character #3. This was taken further by noting that Foxglove is a well known bat character from Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. This led to many inside jokes, some making their way into production, such as accepting our Discord rules with a bat emoji 🦇, of which the welcome message states "A new person has signed the bat pact!". Then Star Warriors joined the collective bringing yet another bat, Sylvain Hart. All these prominant bat characters attracted a large number of bat lovers to the community, who furthered the movement of bat love. Gunny could not be more pleased with himself, as our Community Batmanager.

What is a community affiliate?

You can find a full explanation over here. The short answer is that we lack the time and energy to do everything with open arms to the public. The Affiliate Creator role on our Discord server marks users that we will often go to first for collaborative or feedback needs. Applications don't open often.

Why are there PG13 rules? There is some gore, blood, and kinda mature content in some of the webcomics.

To put it bluntly, it isn't a secret that your parents had sex, but that doesn't make it open conversation. Sometimes our stories have borderline PG13 content and watering it down mutes the story, but that doesn't make it community appropriate. We aim to house a family friendly environment where everyone can partake. Thus the PG13 rules make the line clear for all, so that our webcomics don't set the wrong example. It is important to recognize the difference between entertainment media and social interaction.

Do I have to be in your Discord to partake in events?

Generally yes, unless advertised otherwise. We use Discord for its tools and widespread adoption. It also acts as our home base, as detailed here. It just makes sense for us and keeps things simple. We understand if you don't want to stick around; feel free to bail after the event!

About You

Is there any way I can support or help?

The collective itself does not require much support. However, each of the comics could always use more! Visit each of their pages to learn how. Typically it's through Patreon, but each artist may be offering commissions so check their socials too! Outside of financial support, partaking in the community Discord is a wonderful way to stay in the loop and help when able. Volunteer positions and hired assistance are not very common, but if you are looking to work for us or any of our comics then follow our Bluesky for news.

May I draw something for you? is fanart ok?

Yes, you may! We absolutely adore fanart! We just ask that you keep it PG13 and SFW. If you are uncertain or have questions, then contact us. We don't mind and it never hurts to ask! We provide references for our mascot, webcomic characters, and fursonas or personas. Should you wish to cameo us to any degree, please request permission first.

May I DM one of you?

Sure! However, some of us keep DMs to friends only. We ask that you respect our personal choices of limiting or refusing conversation. There are a lot of people that wish to socialize with us, so some lines have been drawn. Your safest bet is to contact us by other means in case you have something to ask.

Is it OK if I organize a game or social gathering in your Discord?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. While we may host official events, that does not mean you can't host anything of your own. Play some games, schedule an art study, form a reading club, have at it! We love to see the community get together. It genuinely puts a smile on our faces. Just don't use our names, logos, or likeness to advertise in an official capacity. Hosting a game night doesn't mean you can advertise it as the official game night of Foxglove Comics. Make it your own thing and be proud of it!
